My Personal Art Journey
Why art, why playing hard mode?
I've been drawing for as long as I can remember. I'm actually a bit annoyed that past me didn't date the drawings so I could tell when I made them. I have to rely on my memories, and those aren't completely flawless. At least we can see that my lovely Yoshi drawing is from 2004, which is the earliest dated drawing I could find. I would have been around 14 years old. Fan art was already my thing by then, it seems. Copying things and making them my own. That was how I learned. I didn't have access to the tutorials we have now, so I had to work with what I had. I bought a lot of step-by-step drawing books.
A lot of hobbies have come and gone over the years, but drawing has always stayed. And oh boy, do I have a lot of interests. I've recently moved house, and while unpacking my boxes, I found a lot of old journals. Obviously, I got distracted and started reading them. Looking back through the years, I noticed how often I wrote about wanting to make art my livelihood. I tried a few times, but life was hectic, or I would prioritize a steadier income and end up out of juice. Yet I kept writing about wanting to start my own business.
The one thing that really pushed me to go for it was my dad's passing in 2019. He still had so much to live for, but he died just before retirement. He always told my younger sister and me to do what we loved. My sister did start her own business, and I was so proud of her. She did what I was afraid to do. It still took me a few years and some saving up, but when I got a big commission, I started FurenshiArt. Officially, at least. I've worked on it full-time on and off. And now that I've moved, I feel like I finally have the energy to make it my full-time job.
Through these blog posts, I want to share my journey, whether it turns out to be successful or not. Guess we'll have to see!

Many of the drawings I write about end up as prints and stickers in the shop.
